Miller Process Coatings

Foil Stamper

We worked with the Proud company, who provided the hardware design and components, for this project. We provided the PLC and HMI programming for a custom designed foil stamping machine. The system was deployed on a Mitsubishi FX series PLC and and a small GT100 HMI module. A torque motor puts tension on the aluminum tape as it is pulled through the stamping area by a stepper motor. A pneumatic device then applies force to a die which embosses a label on the tape.

When the Start button is pressed the machine stamps the label and automatically advances the tape to the next position until the specified number of labels are complete. The number of labels to be printed, label size and spacing between labels is specified on HMI screens. Jog functions are provided for tape installation and removal after stamping .
